Mr. Matthew Akester, an independent researcher in Tibetan history based in the Himalayan region. His interests include the history of Lhasa and history of occupied Tibet 1950-79. He has worked as a consultant for Tibet Information Network, Tibet Heritage Fund, Tibetan Buddhist Resource Center and Human Rights Watch. Mr. Akester gave a presentation on mining situation in Central Tibet since 2000 particularly focusing on the mining activities in Gyama Valley,60 km upstream of Lhasa.
