10 June, Chennai: In the beautiful city of Chennai formerly known as Madras, Chennai Center for China Studies, more commonly known as C3S, a think tank on China based in Chennai and National Maritime Foundation – Tamil Nadu (NMF-TN) jointly organized a two-day international seminar on “Trends and Transformation in China’s Geo-Politics, Strategy, Society and Business”. The two-day seminar on 8 and 9 June was held in Hotel Savera, which is centrally located in Mylapore, Chennai.
The seminar saw the attendance of more than 150 people on the first day in the presence of Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, honorable Minister of Defence, Government of India.
The two-day seminar discussed wide range of issues concerning China’s domestic politics, China’s geo-politics and strategy, China’s society and China’s business and economy.
On the second day of the seminar, Tenzin Tseten, a research fellow of the Tibet Policy Institute (TPI) gave a presentation on the title “nationality policy: discussing one of the challenging issues of the People’s Republic of China.
In his presentation, he spoke on the evolution of nationality policy in China right from the Republic of China to the present day nationality policy under the PRC. He also discussed unprecedented debates and discussions that have been taking place in PRC vis-à-vis nationality policy largely triggered from 2008 peaceful protests in Tibet. He also highlighted Tibetan narratives coming from Tibet. For instance, Shokdung’s latest book the division of heaven and earth, written in response to the protest that spread across Tibet in 2008. He said in his book “I may lose my head because of my mouth”.
In 2016, TPI and C3S inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Dharamsala.
