Invitation to the 8th Young Indian Scholars’ Conference on Tibetan Studies

India and Tibet share a profound historical and cultural relationship, rooted in centuries of spiritual and cultural exchange. Often described as being “as old as the Himalayas,” this bond has significantly influenced Tibetan identity and tradition over the ages. Since ancient times, Tibetans have revered India as the “Land of the Gods,” while India regards Tibet as a sacred land—underscoring the deep cultural and religious ties between the two regions. This relationship, however, was altered when the People’s Liberation Army marched into Tibet. The transformation of Tibet under Chinese occupation has realigned India’s neighborhood relations.

Since its inception, the Tibet Policy Institute has organized conferences on a variety of themes. In keeping with this tradition, the Tibet Policy Institute (TPI) is pleased to announce the 8th Indian Scholars’ Conference on Tibetan Studies, to be held from October 8 to 9, 2026, at ATWS, Khanyara, Dharamshala. The conference aims to foster scholarly exchange and provide a platform for Indian scholars to present their research on various aspects of Tibetan Studies.
