Dharamshala, India – The Tibet Policy Institute (TPI) held a short book discussion today to mark the simultaneous release of its 11th Tibet Policy Journal annual 2024 publication in both Tibetan and English. The Tibetan version features 12 research papers by Tibetan scholars from across India, while the English edition includes 10 research papers by Indian scholars on Tibetan Studies. The event attracted a diverse audience, including TPI researchers and journalists, who gathered to explore the content and significance of the 11th edition of the much awaited TPI Annual journal.
The panel discussion began with an introduction by Tempa Gyaltsen Zamlha, the Deputy Director of TPI, who welcomed attendees and emphasized the importance of these publications in shaping the discourse around Tibetan policy and contemporary issues.
Dr. Lobsang Thapkhen, the Tibetan editor of the journal, provided an overview of the content and the article selection process. He detailed the meticulous effort behind editing the diverse papers, which reflect a wide array of perspectives and research on Tibet’s political, historical, and literary art. Dr. Thapkhen also gave a brief overview of each paper included in the journals.
Phenthok, shared insights into the early stages of the project, particularly the process of announcing the call for abstracts and collecting submissions.
Dr. Tsewang Dorji, as one of the authors featured in the journal, provided a summary of his paper, offering insights into his research and how it contributes to the broader understanding of situatoin in Tibet.
The event concluded with remarks from Dawa Tsering, the Director of the Tibet Policy Institute, who praised the team’s efforts in bringing the journals to fruition. He underscored the importance of continued academic research and dialogue on Tibet and expressed hopes that the journals would facilitate deeper understanding and foster constructive debates on critical issues impacting Tibet and its people. Director also highlighted how the Tibet Policy Journal provides platform for young Tibetan and Indian scholars to publish their research papers, which enhances both the scope and depth of discussion on issues related to Tibet and Tibetan people.
Both journals represent key milestones in TPI’s ongoing mission to promote informed discussion and research on issues related to Tibet. The Tibetan version was edited by Dr. Lobsang Thapkhen, while the English version was edited by Dr. Tenzin Desal. The presentations and discussions at the event reflected TPI’s commitment to advancing knowledge and policy on Tibet at both local and global levels.
